Telephone Cards (Calling Cards)

A Telephone Card—sometimes called a “phone card” or “calling card”—is a small card used to pay for telephone services.

Each card will have a certain amount of telephone minutes, probably written directly on the card. Some cards allow you to make local calls and some allow you to make long-distance (international) calls.

  • Most cards will have a set amount of minutes already installed onto them (pre-paid), which means you can throw away the card after the minutes have been used.
  • Some phone cards are rechargeable, which means you can add more minutes to them when they do not have any minutes remaining.

Phone cards can be purchased at supermarkets, convenience stores, and variety stores, as well as on the Internet by searching for “phone cards.” Here are some calling card companies:
