Massachusetts Identification / Liquor ID
You may be asked to present a U.S. government identification at various times, such as when you enter a pub, purchase a cell/mobile phone, etc.
- It is recommended that you not use your passport for identification within in the U.S. Your passport may sometimes not be accepted as identification within the U.S., and passports are difficult to replace if lost or stolen.
- The primary form of identification within the U.S. is the Massachusetts Driver’s License. You may obtain a Massachusetts Driver's License for identification purposes even if you do not intend to drive in the U.S.
- If you do want a Massachusetts Driver’s License, it is recommended that you get a Massachusetts Identification Card (also called a “Liquor ID”) for identification purposes.
How to Apply for a Liquor ID
