Furnishing Your Home

When you rent an apartment, basic appliances such as a refrigerator and stove are usually included, but not much more than that. Some apartments and rented homes will come furnished, with furniture and some household items already there. But in most cases you may need to get large items, such as a bed, sofa, dining table and chairs, as well as small items, such as plates, cups, utensils, towels.

There are many stores in the Boston area where you can buy the smaller household items you need. Select to learn more about shopping in the U.S.

You have a few options when buying larger items such as furniture. Select to learn more:

couch
Furniture Shopping

If you need to obtain furniture such as a bed or sofa, you may choose to buy these items new or used, or to rent them. Learn more about this process.

Big Box Store
Large Home Stores

Many large home stores have less expensive and discounted furniture and household items, but are too large to be found in the center of Boston. You may order online or check the website to find a store near you.

Nightstand
Used Furniture

You might want to consider buying used furniture in order to save money. You cannot normally negotiate prices with a furniture store, but you can always negotiate prices with people who are selling their own used items.

Delivery Van
Moving Furniture

There are a few ways to move your items into your apartment. Learn more about the various ways.

Refrigerator
Renting Furniture and Appliances

Renting furniture and appliances is also an option. You can usually rent furniture by the month or by the year.
