Other Visa Types
In addition to J-1 and H-1B visas, there are a number of other types. It is your responsibility to maintain your visa status, and it is very important that you do so.

Visa Waiver with Business classification is granted initially for 90 days, but less time may be given by an Immigration officer. The U.S. government prohibits any extension or change of visa status.
If you have an F-1 student visa to study at an accredited college or university in the United States, this page will provide you with information about maintaining your status.
The H-1B1 visa category for residents of Chile or Singapore can only be issued for one year at a time. However, the H-1B1 visa status is renewable indefinitely, provided that you are able to demonstrate that you do not intend to remain or work permanently in the U.S.
J-1 Student Interns may remain in the U.S. internship program for up to 12 months. Learn more about extending and maintaining this visa.
If you would like to extend your O-1 status, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) will determine the time you would need to accomplish your work in increments of up to 1 year.
TN status may be granted for up to three years, and this status may be extended indefinitely in three-year increments, for as long as the employment continues.
