Playing Sports
The following groups offer a variety of sports and are also an excellent environment to meet new friends. All levels of athletic ability are welcome; player selection/tryout criteria do not apply.
- Partners Running Club - Informal and organized running activities for runners of all abilities.
- MGH Running Club - MGH branch of the Partners Running Club. They begin and end runs at MGH, but any Partners Healthcare employees are welcome to join.
- MGH Basketball League - The league is open to both men and women and you must be an MGH or Partners Corporate employee to play. For more information, email Larry Washington.
- MGH Softball League - The league is open April through September to any MGH employee interested in competitive softball. For more information, email Jim Burns.
- Meetup Boston Recreational Sports includes sports such as skiing, tennis, fishing, martial arts, hiking and many more. Meetup also offers hobby, interest, and professional groups.
- Boston Ski and Sports Club welcomes participants to socialize through a variety of sports, such as floor hockey, golf, kickball, lacrosse and skiing.
- Social Boston Sports is a community of young professionals ages 21-35 who gather to promote substantive social interaction through recreational sports leagues, weekend trips, and cultural events. Sports offered vary from classic (soccer, baseball, basketball, football) to unique (ultimate frisbee, cornhole, dodgeball, broomhole).
Watching Sports
Americans are most passionate about football (American football), basketball, and baseball. Soccer (usually called football outside of the U.S.) has only recently gained popularity in the U.S. The Boston sports teams are:
- Football (American football): New England Patriots
- Basketball: Boston Celtics
- Baseball: Boston Red Sox
- Hockey: Boston Bruins
- Soccer (called football outside of the U.S.): New England Revolution
