Equality
One of the founding concepts of American society is equality (the idea that everyone deserves and should have equal rights). The U.S. is a unique country because it has so many different cultures living together in relative peace.
This coexistence is achieved by a system of social and legal boundaries. This concept is taught to Americans from a very early age and is strongly protected by many different laws.
Therefore, it is important to understand that, in America, women and men are treated as equals and so are people of any minority status (based on racial, ethnic, religious, sexual preference, and other identities).
Be aware that infringing upon someone else‘s rights can carry serious social and even legal consequence – such as being called a “racist,” losing a job or, in extreme cases, legal actions in a court of law.
